Double Ugh and New Due Date

So today is the first day in over two weeks that I've felt even relatively normal (and I'm only really at 90%). This has been HORRIBLE. It never stops. With Will it went in waves. I'd feel bad for an hour or so and then it would fade for the rest of the day. This starts as soon as I wake up and doesn't stop until I got to sleep at night. I've started taking naps with him in the afternoon just so I don't have to feel my stomach (even when I'm not really that tired). On top of all of that, Will got sick last week and gave whatever it was to me so I felt really run down with a sore throat. And Will has suddenly (due to the time change, I think) gone down to only one nap a day so my down time has been SEVERELY curtailed. It's been a really challenging few weeks. I've felt so much better today, though, and it's amazing what a difference it makes. I'm almost scared to say it, though, because I don't want to jinx it. I'm really crossing my fingers we're not back to horrible stomach when I wake up tomorrow. This weekend we had an ultrasound to date the pregnancy. They pushed me back 8 days, which was kind of expected. So now instead of being due on 10/21 I'm due on 10/29/11. I measured at 8 weeks the day of the ultrasound (Saturday) so from now on my weeks will change on Saturday. And I had just gotten to 9 weeks. Now I have to do 8 all over again... Oh well, I knew it was coming.

Overnight with Grandma!

Will has been up to so much lately, but I haven't been feeling very well so I've been pretty lax about updating the blog.

First, Tim and I went to New York City the weekend before last to celebrate my 30th birthday and left Will overnight for the first time ever. I was SO nervous about it but, of course, he did fine. I really don't think he even noticed that we were gone. Seriously. Grandma Carol came to our house to stay with him, and he had a very good time. And from what I hear he was a very good boy. I missed him a lot, but it was really nice to have some me time. We visited Ellis Island, my friend Karen and I went for a nice, long run in Central Park, we went to see a play called "Arcadia" which was awesome, caught up with my friend Hank from college, ate lots of good food, and just wandered around seeing different NYC neighborhoods. Lots of fun!

Will finally learned how to climb up on furniture. I thought it was really funny that he wasn't doing it until now. I really think it just didn't occur to him that he could. Then all of the sudden one day he started doing it, as if he'd been doing it all along. He's so silly like that. He won't do something for a long time and then he just does it with complete ease. It's definitely made Tim's attempts to keep him away from his laptop more challenging.

He's also starting to know colors and shapes. It's a little hit or miss here (sometimes anything I ask him the color of, regardless of its color, is blue), but we're definitely making some progress. He gets blue, purple, pink, and yellow most of the time. Every once in a while I can get red and green out of him. He can almost always identify an object of a certain color (e.g., "Will, pick up the blue block for Mommy.") but if I hold up an object and ask him what color it is I only get about a 50% success rate because I think he may forget the color names (this is when everything becomes blue). He definitely does do it sometimes, though, so I think it's only a matter of time.

I'm even more surprised about the shapes. I haven't been working as hard with him on shapes as with colors (for some reason these seem more abstract and advanced to me). I definitely comment on them, especially, when we play with his shape sorter, but I don't go out of my way on it like I've been doing with colors. Anyway, the other day we were playing with the shape sorter and he picks up one of the stars, holds it up, and says "Star". Plain as day. I have no idea where this came from. Maybe my mom when she was here? School? Maybe he's just a genius :-) He also seems to know when things are shaped like a heart.

He also has learned the letters O and P. Again, this is fairly random, and I haven't been trying to teach him letters at all. (I know I'm an over-achiever and all, but even I realize it's silly to try to teach a 1 1/2 year old to read.) He has these books about a little boy and his toy monkey named Pippo and he's always pointing at the P's and O on the cover and asking what they are so Tim and I have just told him. Now he can identify P's and O's on pretty much anything. I bought some alphabet flashcards to see if he wanted to learn other letters, but he mostly wants to scatter them all over the floor.

The other thing that he's done lately is go down to one nap. The time changed while we were in NYC, and after a few days he very clearly created a new schedule for himself that includes only one nap. He doesn't wake up until 8 or so (he used to wake up between 6:30 and 7), refuses to take a morning nap, and takes a long-ish (2 or so hour) nap right after lunch (12:45 or 1:00). It sucks because I really liked the morning nap. It was bound to happen, though. Most other kids I know that are his age went down to one nap awhile ago. It also more closely mirrors his daycare schedule, which I think will be good (he seemed out of sorts on daycare days before). I also can't complain about the sleeping later thing.

I haven't been great about working out lately. He's the sum-up of the last 2 weeks:

Monday - 30 min Elliptical
Tuesday - rest
Wednesday - 5 mile run
Thursday - rest (travel to NYC)
Friday - rest (walked around NYC a lot, but any benefits were more than outdone by the ridiculous amount of crap I ate)
Saturday - 8 or 9 mile run (not really sure)
Sunday - rest (home from NYC)
Monday - rest (recovering from NYC)
Tuesday - 5.6 mile run
Wednesday - rest (Will was sick so couldn't go to work or gym)
Thursday - 3 mile run with Will (made a half hour stop at the park around mile 2 so Will could swing and go on the slides)
Friday - rest
Saturday - rest
Sunday - rest
Monday - 3 mile run

Yeah, those are a lot of rests in there. I haven't been feeling great, though. Plus, Will was sick last week, and my birthday was this weekend. I'm a 30-year-old old lady now. I think that entitles me to resting my old bones for a weekend :-)

Ugh

UGH! There really is no other way to describe it. The nausea that I have been dreaded set in last week. It started last weekend (right after I hit 7 weeks) when I felt horrible all weekend. Not really nauseous yet, just tired and generally like I had been hit by a train. Then the nausea started on Monday and has been rampant ever since. Constantly hungry but nothing sounds good. My stomach only feels OK when I'm eating or right after I've eaten. For a few days the only things that sounded good were fast food. I ate quite a few fish sandwiches. I even went and got a cheese coney after my run on Tuesday night.
