2nd Birthday
Tim came home from work shortly after Will woke up and we opened some presents and played with his new toys. He got lots of Thomas "choo-choo" stuff, including a new track and a few new trains, which he loved. Again, he was very interested in the stop and railroad crossing signs that came with it. He also got a Little People airplane from Gee Gee that was lots of fun.
Paw Paw stopped by to visit after work right before Will went to bed, which was a nice way to end the day. He also got to Skype with Buddy and E before dinner, and GG and Aunt Rachel called earlier in the day to wish him a happy birthday. He got lots of love from his family. This weekend we're going to celebrate with our friends!

Will's First Stitches
Well, the intended schedule for today went something like this:
Wake up early and run before Will wakes up
Shower
Get Will up & feed him breakfast
Let Will play and watch Wiggles while I get dinner on the stove
Give Will a bath (sort laundry while he plays in the bath)
Head to pediatrician's to have Will's ear looked at (he's been telling me it hurts)
Go to Farmer's Market
Come home for lunch
Will nap while I do work
Go to pool for a little while after Will wakes up
Dinner
Let just say that my plans all went to to hell around 10:00. Will was playing with his toys in the bath, and I was 5 feet away sorting laundry. All of the sudden he slipped and bashed his chin against the side of the tub. He stood up and started crying so I came over and scooped him out. It took a few seconds for it to really start bleeding and for me to realize what had happened, but once it started bleeding it GUSHED. I put a washrag on it and applied pressure. After 4 or 5 minutes the bleeding slowed to a trickle. Will also stopped crying at about this point. I layed him down and took a good look at it (which almost made me pass out), and was pretty sure there was no way we weren't going to need stitches.
Fortunately (or unfortunately), I already had an appointment scheduled in less than a half hour to have the doctor look at his ear. He's had a runny nose for about a week. Then yesterday he told me his ear hurt (although I'm never sure how much stock to put in what an almost-two-year-old says, especially one that fabricates tooth pain in order to get Tylenol). But last night he woke up fussing several times so I was pretty sure he had an ear infection. After waiting for almost an hour to see the doctor we determined that A) he did have an ear infection. (In fact, the doctor said his ear drum must be perforated because there was so much puss in there.) and B) he definitely needed stitches. Unfortunately, they don't do stitches at the doctor's so off to the ER we went.
Poor little guy. The emergency room was actually a lot better than I expected. We hardly had to wait at all to go back. They were great with him. It did take a long time, though, because we had to wait almost 45 minutes for the numbing gel they put on his chin to work before they could clean it and put in the stitches. I'm not sure if it was bothering him this whole time, but he never actually fussed after the initial fall. I think I would have been whimpering like a baby the whole time. He was such a good boy and just layed there and let them put the stitches in. Thank god for numbing cream!! The worst part of the whole thing was just occupying him in the hospital room for an hour of waiting.
He ended up with 4 stitches. The doctor said she thought it came together nicely and said there probably won't be much of a scar. It's on the underside of his chin, though, so even if there is a scar at least it won't be on the front of his face.
At least I did get my run in...

Update: When Will woke up the next morning two of his four stitches were gone. I assumed he must have pulled them out overnight. The cut was not gaping so, according to the ER and his pediatrician, he would be OK. But by the time we got to daycare a third one had untied and was hanging loose. And I know FOR SURE he was not playing with it because I was watching him the whole time. So I think it was just a botched stitch job. Anyway, I wasn't comfortable leaving him at daycare like that (and they wouldn't take him anyway) so back the ER we went. We had to wait a lot longer time this time, and overall they were fairly condescending and argued with me that he must have pulled them out, despite the fact that I know for a fact he did not pull the 3rd one out. Anyway, in the end we opted to put a glue-type stuff called DermaBond on it to hold it shut. So they took the last stitch out, cleaned it again, glued it, and we were good to go. It hasn't been an issue since. Thank goodness.

Will's Hat is Finally Done!
You'll have to excuse the quality of the pictures. Getting a nearly-two-year-old to pose for a picture is very difficult. Trying to get him to pose while wearing a hat? Next to impossible
.
I knitted this hat to match the one blue and brown one I already made for nameless baby #2.
This was my first attempt at not using a pattern. I found some very general guidelines for how many stitches to cast on, etc. for various sizes and gauges and then kind of designed it myself from there. I'm not totally crazy about it. I think maybe the cables along with the stripes may have just been too much. It's still cute, though.

Counting Machine!
Well, Mr. Will is all about counting lately. I'm not sure that he totally understands what he's doing when he "counts", but he can count to 10, which I'm very excited about. He also can recognize all of the numbers 1-10.
The bossiness continues. He's started telling Tim and me "no no", which is hilarious. What makes it even funnier is that the "no no" is always accompanied by him holding up his hand in a "stop" gesture and giving us a very disapproving look. He's also starting randomly proclaiming "all right" as in all right let's get going, etc. Not sure where he got that from. Very cute, though.
He's started with a serious independent streak lately too. He doesn't want any help going up and down stairs (which is a little scary), he refuses to sit in his high chair (he has to sit at the table like a big boy), and he insists on picking out his own shirt to wear each morning. He also now has an opinion about what pajamas he wears. He suddenly rebelled against the footie pajamas he's worn for the last year so I had to go out and buy all new PJs for him.
On the Baby #2 front I'm starting to get pretty uncomfortable. I'm only 25 weeks (not even into the third trimester yet), but the weather we've been having is unbearable. The heat index is in the 100 degree range constantly and it seems like there's a heat advisory every day. No fun. I also fear that my running is coming to an end soon. Three of the last 4-5 runs have caused my lower back to hurt so much that I could hardly walk the next day. Not good. I've been doing yoga weekly and doing a good job of staying on top of weight training at least once a week. I need to find a good substitute for running, though. Walking is not high intensity enough at this point (although I know full well it will be my only option for the last month or so), and doing the elliptical at the gym is going to be unbearably boring 3 days a week. I'm going to look into the spinning class at the gym. It's kind of hard to fit into my schedule, though, unfortunately.
My part of painting the "big boy room" has been done for almost a week. Now I'm just waiting on Tim to roll it. I'm really hoping he gets it done this weekend because I really want to make some progress and get Will moved in. Will is also very excited about it.
The project for this week: planning a little get together for a certain cute little someone who is about to turn 2!

Busy!! Busy!!
Wow, I've been busy lately. Mostly with work stuff. I've been working on a project for my mom, keeping up with the bookkeeping I'm doing on the side, and putting in extra hours at the bank to stay on top of a time-sensitive project they've got me working on. I definitely like to be busy. It's just in my personality that I thrive when I have a lot of things on my plate. I'm starting to feel like I'm approaching the edge, though. I'm about to cross that line between good busy and bad busy, and I'm even more sensitive about it because I worry that Will will be the one who suffers. I get distracted and am not present in my time with him, I'm short-tempered, etc. And now the bank has asked me to pick up a 3rd day in the office for the next few months (I'm assuming until the new baby comes), and I just don't know what to do. Selfishly, I wouldn't mind another day in the office. The $ would be nice (especially when we're gearing up for me to be paycheck-less for another 6-9 months when the baby is born), and I'm enjoying what I'm doing at work lately. I have a lot of guilt about leaving Will for another day, though. I just never know what the right thing to do is. Sigh.

Anyway, I can't believe we're already into July. The summer's halfway over! We joined the pool and have been spending some time there. Will has a lot of fun "swimming" in the big pool with swimmies on. Tim went out of town for a week last week to visit his family in England, and we went a few times. One day we went with my mom and Aunt Becky and he had a great time. He did fall down on the deck of the baby pool, though, and scrape up his knees. Those were his first official scraped knees.
I've also been busy trying to get Will's "big boy room" done. I've made some progress. I bought the rest of the bedding today (sheets, dust ruffle, etc). This weekend I started painting the trim. I still have a fair amount to go, though, and that's just the first coat. Painting is definitely a slow business when you only have an hour or two to devote to it each evening. Then Tim will need to roll it. Not sure when that will get done. I also need to caulk the window before I can trim around it, which is a pain in the butt. My parents were nice enough to come last night and switch out the beds for me, which was a huge help. We're going to store the double mattress and box-spring we had been using in there as the guest room, and they're going to use the headboard and footboard at their house. Then they brought us one of the twin beds my sister and I used as kids. Will was VERY excited about the "big boy bed". Hopefully he'll be as excited about it when it comes time to sleep in it in a few weeks...
When he's not busy obsessing over and touching street signs or playing with clothing hangers Will is really into singing songs these days. Or, more accurately, insisting that I sing songs. He really enjoys doing motions along with them. His favorite is "Wheels on the Bus", and for some reason he finds it absolutely hilarious when 'the horn goes beep beep'. He likes Itsy Bitsy Spider too, and enjoys doing the animal noises to Old McDonald. I've been trying to sing the ABC song with him a lot lately so that he can start learning it. He's started to pick up a few random letters and pipes in where he can, particularly C, P, and X.
Here he is riding his "bicycle" around
I've been in the mood to knit again lately so I've knitting some hats for the new baby. He's going to arrive right before Halloween so I made him a pumpkin hat so he could be festive while we take Will trick-or-treating. I also knitted him just a normal hat to wear once it gets cold. My next project is going to be knitting one for will in the same brown and blue color scheme so that
they can match. His will be less Dr. Seuss, though, and more toddler appropriate.
As a side-note, I did actually finish knitting the sweater. The problem is that it needs hook-and-eye closures down the front and some buttons on the collar, which I can't really apply until I can try it on to determine where they should go. Which won't be happening until post-baby. So the sweater is on indefinite hold at this point :-(
